Friends of First Run

About Us

[]

Mr. Peter Cramp, heartthrob.

The Friends of First Run work in conjunction with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation to maintain and improve the safety, cleanliness and friendliness of the Tompkins Square First Run, an off-leash dog park located in New York City’s Tompkins Square Park. We recruit and organize volunteers; conduct general maintenance, clean-up, and landscaping; publlish a newsletter, The Scoop; organize in-park workshops. We also educate the public on responsible dog ownership, including spay/neutering.

Who made you the boss of me?
Well, we kinda made ourselves the bosses of you, for now. That's how First Run has worked for ten years -- rough consensus and effort. It's not glamorous or prestigious or even paying. Elections are coming soon. Very soon.
It's just dirt where my dog poops. What exactly do you self-important former student-government types do?
We organize cleanups, repair things that are broken, and raise money so that we can pay to fix the aforementioned broken things. We also act as advocates for the run to the Parks Department and other local groups.
